Fusion 360 Tutoring

Learn to create stunning 3D designs and much more with Fusion 360.

Fusion 360 is a versatile engineering package. With it, you can design any 3D model you can imagine, create professional-grade renders, perform stress-test simulations, and export the design to a 3D printer, laser cutter or CNC computer-controlled router. Used by designers, engineers and makers the world over, Fusion 360 is the industry standard and a gateway to a successful career in any technical field.

Who’s it for?

Any students ages 12+. No previous engineering knowledge necessary.

Fusion 360 is a complex package with tremendous capabilities, but that also requires developing good habits from the beginning. With well-planned instruction by a teacher with years of experience, you’ll learn the fundamentals the right way. From there, a variety of projects are possible, from furniture to toys to robots. Whatever you can imagine, you can bring to life!

What’s included:

Fusion 360

You’ll get a free educational license, which provides the same access to design, rendering, simulation, animations and manufacturing as a paid license.

Individual Tutoring

Learning Fusion 360 is ideal over Zoom: the student has the software running, shares their screen, and learns by doing. Meanwhile the teacher can annotate, pointing out which tools to use and even sketching out design ideas. This also lets the teacher adjust the pace to match the student, maximizing learning and enjoyment!

Instructional Videos

The best way to learn Fusion 360 is with guided, live instruction. But between lessons, instructional videos can help keep the concepts fresh in your mind.

Practice Problems & Projects

With each new tool you learn and skill you acquire, practice problems challenge you to put them to use and sharpen your understanding. Once you’ve got the basic skills down, projects help you learn how to apply them in concert for something more ambitious: a robot with hinging joints; a custom table with realistic joinery; a suspension bridge. And if you have your own idea, we can plan it out and design it together!

Example Projects

Skateboard

A good introductory project, a skateboard has only a few parts, some with simple geometry, others with more complexity, and overall symmetry that can be used to save time and effort.

Mousetrap Car

This classic physics project can be modeled in great detail (like above) or more simply. The front wheels can be designed to pivot left and right, and stock parts (bolts, Lego pieces) can be found online. Finally, the entire model can be constructed by 3D printing!

Egg Chair

This organic form uses a different method from the other two examples. Instead of straightforward geometric shapes, it must be molded like clay. This can allow more artistic students to let their imaginations run wild!
